Fikret Bačić has been searching for the bones of his wife and children for 22 years

Around ten thousand missing persons are still being searched for in Bosnia and Herzegovina, whose traces were lost during the aggression against BiH from '92 to '95, writes the BiH news agency Patria (NAP).

Furthermore, Interpol's lists of missing persons also include several people whose fate is unknown and who disappeared under peacetime conditions. One of them is a woman from Prijedor, who disappeared four years ago, leaving behind a minor son. Nothing is yet known about her fate.

Currently, several minors are also being searched for in Bosnia and Herzegovina, who also disappeared after the aggression, and whose fate remains uncertain. They are suspected to be victims of human trafficking. 

The film “I Miss You” by the Balkan Investigative Reporting Network (BIRN), which will premiere on July 3rd at the Meeting Point cinema in Sarajevo, has brought the topic of the suffering of families of missing persons during their search to the forefront. The film's plot begins in Bosnia and Herzegovina and later expands to the region.

Erna Mačkić, editor at BIRN, explains that she and her colleagues wanted to show the suffering that families of missing persons go through during the process of finding their family members, but also the importance of speeding up the process of finding missing persons.

- Thousands of people in BiH have been waiting for years for a phone call informing them that their loved ones have been found, but for many, this has not yet happened – Mačkić tells the Patria agency.

- We are aware that the search for a missing person, especially when it comes to BiH citizens, takes a very long time, and through this film, we wanted to point out this problem in order to speed it up at least to some extent – says Mačkić.

The film “I Miss You” is largely depicted through the fate of Fikret Bačić, whose two minor children and wife were executed by members of the Army of Republika Srpska in Prijedor in 1992. One of Fikret's children was around 13 years old, while the other was four years younger. Their bones have not been found to this day, although Fikret has never given up searching for them.

- A lot of people disappear in the world every year, every day, and I think a unified solution should be found on how to act in these situations – says Mačkić, writes Patria.
