FIFA launches investigation against Shaqiri, Xhaka and Krstajić for political messages

MOSCOW, (Patria) - FIFA's Disciplinary Committee has launched an investigation against Swiss internationals Granit Xhaka and Xherdan Shaqiri for their goal celebrations in Switzerland's 2-1 victory over Serbia.

The duo gestured a double-headed eagle during the celebration, a symbol of the Albanian flag, from where their roots originate.

At the same time, an investigation has also been launched against the Football Association of Serbia for fan disturbances during the match and for displaying political and offensive messages. We recall that during the match between Switzerland and Serbia, Serbian fans could be seen in the stands wearing shirts with the image of war criminal Ratko Mladić.

Proceedings have also been initiated against Serbia's coach Mladen Krstajić for his statement after the match:

Xhaka, Shaqiri and Krstajić face fines and even suspension for the final round of the group stage. Switzerland have four points after two rounds and are in a clear situation where they must not lose to Costa Rica in the final round to advance.
