Ferguson and Izetbegović: Discussed the solution for the status of the city of Mostar

Chairman of the BiH Presidency Bakir Izetbegović received the Ambassador of Great Britain Edward Ferguson. The main topic of discussion was the decision to call a referendum on the Day of Republika Srpska, which was recently adopted by the National Assembly of Republika Srpska.

In his conversation with Ambassador Ferguson, Chairman of the BiH Presidency Bakir Izetbegović once again warned that the decision of the National Assembly of Republika Srpska to call a referendum and the procedure for its implementation represent a clear violation of the constitutional and legal jurisdiction of Bosnia and Herzegovina, i.e., a violation of the obligation of the Republika Srpska entity to respect the BiH Constitution, in relation to the final and binding nature of the decisions of the Constitutional Court of BiH.

Chairman Izetbegović requested Ambassador Ferguson to ensure that the institutions of the international community responsible for all aspects of the implementation of the Dayton Peace Agreement, primarily the High Representative of the international community in BiH and the Peace Implementation Council, take concrete actions and steps in accordance with their authorities and obligations to protect the Dayton Peace Agreement.

Chairman Izetbegović particularly emphasized the fact that the celebration of January 9th as the Day of Republika Srpska is a discriminatory act towards other peoples in that part of Bosnia and Herzegovina, contrary to the European Convention on Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, which is also contained in the conclusion of the European Commission for Democracy through Law, better known as the Venice Commission, from 2013.

The interlocutors welcomed the registration of the first prospective military location in RS, in Han Pijesak, today, which marks the beginning of fulfilling NATO's Tallinn requirement in this BiH entity as well.

During the meeting, they also discussed the solution for the status of the city of Mostar.
