Federal Fund Assists Landslide Remediation in Una-Sana Canton

Director of the Federal Fund for Assistance to Disaster-Stricken Areas in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina Jasmin Jaganjac, today in Bihać with the mayor of this city Emdžad Galijašević, the mayor of Cazin municipality Nermin Ogrešević, and the director of the Regional Roads Directorate of Una-Sana Canton Amel Alagić discussed the remediation of landslides in endangered settlements, and on regional roads in the areas of Bihać and Cazin.

The meeting resulted in an agreement on an upcoming visit by an expert team from the Federal Fund, which will analyze the situation at several locations in Bihać and Cazin where houses are endangered. This finding will be the basis for further project activities for landslide remediation in these areas.

Otherwise, landslide remediation in the Una-Sana Canton area exceeds the capabilities of municipalities and cantons. According to the damage records, more than nine million convertible marks would need to be invested solely for the remediation of damage to regional roads in this canton.

Director Jaganjac informed the interlocutors today about the plans for the current year, in which priority tasks are the reconstruction of houses, remediation of landslides, and damaged communications. By pooling funds with UNDP and other partners, as he stated, numerous projects have been realized, although the need is far greater than the currently available funds.

For the remediation of landslides in the Bihać settlement of Vrsta, the Fund has provided 234,000 KM, and 211,000 KM for addressing landslides in the Bužim settlement of Konjodor, where, in addition to the road, several residential buildings are also endangered.
