Federal House of Peoples adopts set of reform energy laws

(Patria) - The House of Peoples of the Parliament of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina today also accepted the Proposal of the Law on the Use of Renewable Energy Sources and Efficient Cogeneration, thus adopting a set of energy laws that introduce European standards in the energy sector.

Prior to this law, the House of Peoples adopted the Law on Energy and Regulation of Energy Activities in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Law on Electricity of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The set of energy laws was earlier adopted by the House of Representatives of the Parliament of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina at its session.

In the explanation of the legal solution, the Federal Minister of Energy, Mining and Industry Vedran Lakić stated that the Law on the Use of Renewable Energy Sources and Efficient Cogeneration enables citizens to be equal participants in the energy sector and produce electricity without forming legal entities.

Regarding the reasons for adopting the law, they relate to improving the legal framework in the electricity sector and more precisely defining the rights, obligations and responsibilities of all market participants, as well as improving the legal framework for efficient regulation of activities in the electricity sector, Fena reported.

The law simplifies administrative procedures for the construction and operation of production facilities using renewable energy sources, primarily solar power plants and wind farms, as well as introducing new categories of participants and activities in the electricity market, and introducing new rights and mechanisms for empowering and protecting end consumers of electricity.

The delegates adopted a conclusion tasking Elektroprenos and FERK to consider the possibilities of transmission lines, i.e. the power grid, and align their plans for increasing capacity, especially for export routes, so that the produced energy can find its customers.

During the discussion, it was emphasized that the ultimate goal is to increase the share of renewable energy sources. An appeal was made to adopt as soon as possible the by-laws, of which there are about 60, and to educate citizens about the new opportunities brought by these reform laws.
