(Patria) - Officials of the Federal Agency for Management of Confiscated Property today, with the assistance of the Court Police Center in Sarajevo Canton and the Special Support Unit of the Court Police in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Police Administration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Sarajevo Canton, took over parking spaces at the locations Tekija čikma bb, Kovači bb, and Safvet bega Bašagića bb, municipality of Stari Grad Sarajevo.
These parking spaces were temporarily confiscated by the Cantonal Court in Sarajevo from associated persons by the Order of the Cantonal Prosecutor's Office of Sarajevo Canton, number: T09 0 KTOV 0157282 23, dated January 16th of this year, due to the commission of criminal offenses of "abuse of position or authority", "money laundering", "receiving gifts or other benefits" and "giving gifts and other benefits", and entrusted to the Federal Agency for Management of Confiscated Property for management.
Considering that this is a temporary measure to secure property benefits obtained through criminal activity, the Agency will undertake all necessary measures to preserve the value of the confiscated property until the competent court makes a final decision in this proceeding.
In this case, the Agency has been entrusted with the management of confiscated property valued at 300,000 KM, thus continuing the implementation of tasks defined by the Law on Confiscation of Property Acquired Illegally Through Criminal Offenses in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
"This is another indicator of the full implementation of the Law on Confiscation of Property Acquired Illegally Through Criminal Offenses in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which sends a clear message that crime does not pay. By exercising its jurisdiction, the Agency has once again proven itself as a reliable partner to domestic and international institutions in the fight against organized crime and corruption, and continues its intensive work on this and other received cases," stated the Federal Agency for Management of Confiscated Property.
The Federal Agency for Management of Confiscated Property sealed parking lots linked to the former mayor of Stari Grad Municipality, Ibrahim Hadžibajrić, and Elmedin Karišik this morning.
Ibrahim Hadžibajrić and Elmedin Karišik were arrested in the 'Start' operation. The case against Hadžibajrić is being handled by the KS Prosecutor's Office, while the State Prosecutor's Office is working on the case against Karišik. They are charged with criminal offenses of organized crime, abuse of position/authority, money laundering, receiving and giving gifts.
Ibrahim Hadžibajrić and Elmedin Karišik are suspected of organizing and leading a criminal group whose members included Alma Destanović, Seid Hadžibajrić, and other individuals.
