Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina introduces awards for science

(Patria) - Starting next year, awards for science will also be presented in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, including an award for lifetime achievement, as well as annual awards for science, for young researchers and for popularization and promotion of science. 

The awards will consist of a monetary amount and a charter, and will be presented to citizens of BiH residing in the FBiH for exceptionally significant achievements in scientific research and research and development activities, for expanding scientific knowledge, and for demonstrated success in applying the results of scientific research and research and development work achieved by scientists and researchers – candidates for the award. 

Otherwise, the Decree on the establishment, procedure, and criteria for awarding federal science awards will be in effect from January 1, 2021, while the call for award applications will be issued in the spring of next year on behalf of the FBiH Government by the Federal Ministry of Education and Science. This ministry invites all potential nominators of candidates for awards, i.e., all scientific and research institutions – academies of sciences and arts, universities and their organizational units, higher education institutions, scientific institutions, scientific research and research and development institutes, technology parks, and other legal entities registered for scientific research and research and development activities based in the Federation of BiH – to cooperate and partner. 

Given that the awards will be presented annually on Science Day in the Federation of BiH, the first federal science awards in four categories will be presented on December 12, 2021.
In the FBiH, there has not been an organized way and procedure for the social evaluation of scientific results so far, although it is evident that scientists and researchers from this region achieve notable
successes domestically and internationally. Such awards, in addition to recognizing scientists for their achievements, represent a significant contribution to the popularization of research work and the promotion of the country as a scientifically and technologically aware state on the international stage, according to the Federal Ministry of Education and Science.
