Fakić: New damages at "Spreča" farm

Dairy company "Milkos" suffered damages from the previous floods in the amount of 2.2 million KM, both directly and indirectly, said the director of "Milkos" Adin Fakić for the BH news agency Patria. What would slightly ease the situation for "Milkos" is a moratorium on loan repayment.

- We sent requests to the banks with which the "Spreča" farm does business. All expressed interest and a strong desire for it to be realized. I believe that all banks that participated in the financing of the "Spreča" farm will approve a one-year moratorium. The banks have shown a high degree of understanding - Fakić said.

New floods, as Fakić says, were not expected by anyone, so damages are being summed up.

- As the farm employees told us, the situation is still uncertain - Fakić told Patria.

The sowing destroyed in the May floods has not been fully restored. Out of the planned 500 hectares, 320 hectares of corn have been sown.

- And that is now under water again. Corn has agrotechnical deadlines by which it must be sown. If these deadlines are missed, every day of delay reduces the quantity and quality. The deadlines for sowing are until the end of April, and we were doing it in July - says Fakić, adding that the lack of quality feed must be compensated with concentrate.

- Concentrate is extremely expensive and accounts for 50 to 60% of the cost of animal feed. The better the quality of the feed, the cheaper the milk production. The lower the quality of the feed, the more expensive milk production is, and at a certain point, unprofitable - Fakić said.

Speaking about the Spreča riverbed, Fakić said that it is unmaintained, and that "Milkos" has maintained 50 km of canals at its own expense.

- By doing so, we prevented everything from being flooded, but we cannot influence anything else. The only luck is that the "Spreča" farm building is safe because it was built on a slight elevation - says Fakić.
