European Parliament: Resolution on BiH adopted

The European Parliament today adopted a resolution on Bosnia and Herzegovina, proposed by Cristian Dan Peda, the European Parliament's rapporteur for BiH, writes Patria.

Of the 695 parliamentarians, 496 voted in favour, 132 against, and 67 abstained. The Resolution calls on BiH to overcome its ethnic and political divisions on the path to EU membership for the evaluation process of the membership application to the Union to be successful. BiH submitted its application on this day in 2016.

Peda emphasized that BiH should focus on reforms and avoid topics that cause divisions and could slow down BiH's progress on the path to the EU.

Although the term federalization is mentioned in the Resolution, as MEP Jasenko Selimović previously pointed out, no changes to the internal organization of BiH can occur without an agreement within BiH. 

The resolution also expresses regret over the non-implementation of a large number of Constitutional Court decisions.

Regret is also expressed that for the third election cycle in a row, the citizens of Mostar have been denied their democratic right to elect their local representatives, and calls for the swift implementation of the Constitutional Court's ruling on Mostar by amending the election legislation and the statute of the City of Mostar.

Furthermore, concern has been expressed over cases of political pressure on journalists.
