European People's Party suspended Fidesz, HDZ was against the suspension

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The European People's Party officially suspended Fidesz, the party of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, from its ranks.

The suspension took effect immediately, and according to a statement by EPP group leader Joseph Daul, it will last until further notice.

190 members of the EPP assembly voted for the suspension, and only three members were against it.

The French Republicans, Slovenian Democrats and Italy's Forza Italia, who also belong to the EPP, opposed the expulsion of Fidesz from the group, as did the Croatian HDZ. On the other hand, the German Christian Democrats were one of the main drivers of this action, initiated by the new leader of the ruling CDU party, Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer.
