European Network of Councils for the Judiciary strongly supports HJPC BiH in preserving judicial independence

(Patria) - The Presidency of the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council of Bosnia and Herzegovina (HJPC BiH) held a meeting with members of the Executive Board of the European Network of Councils for the Judiciary (ENCJ), and the main topic was preserving the independence of the judiciary in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Although the judiciary in BiH is currently facing serious challenges regarding independence from undue political influence, the ENCJ Executive Board encourages the HJPC BiH and judicial institutions to take all measures to preserve the independence and integrity of the judiciary.

Members of the ENCJ Executive Board, together with representatives of the HJPC BiH, discussed current challenges facing the BiH judicial system, and exchanged experiences and practices regarding the improvement of accountability, integrity, and efficiency of the judiciary.

Sanin Bogunić, President of the Council, warned that judicial institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina are undergoing a serious test, and that the ENCJ's support is crucial in protecting the rule of law, and that today's meeting confirms European solidarity in protecting an independent and functional judicial system.

The importance of the role of judicial councils in protecting the rule of law was also highlighted, as well as the necessity of continuous cooperation of the entire European judiciary and providing support to judicial systems facing any form of threat to their independence.

The fact that the ENCJ Executive Board meeting was held in Sarajevo confirms that the HJPC BiH is recognized as a credible and reliable partner within the European judicial community and at the same time represents an important institutional event, especially in the context of strengthening judicial independence and Bosnia and Herzegovina's European path.

This is another confirmation of the importance of the HJPC BiH as the regulatory body of the judiciary in Bosnia and Herzegovina and an active player in European judicial networks, and an indicator of the continuous support of the international community, both in preserving stability and in the reform processes in the BiH judiciary.

The European Network of Councils for the Judiciary (ENCJ) has clearly and unequivocally expressed its commitment to preserving the stability of the judicial system in Bosnia and Herzegovina, providing full support to the HJPC BiH and all judicial institutions in their efforts to preserve the independence, integrity, and full functionality of the judiciary.
