Evacuation of the wider area around Skenderija plateau, mortar shell found

A 120 mm mortar shell with a fuse was found in the middle of the Skenderija center plateau, and an evacuation is underway in the area, Fahrudin Solak, director of the Federal Civil Protection Administration, told the Patria agency.

He said that fortunately there was no explosion, and the area around the shell is now being secured to be removed from the concrete base and taken to a destruction range. The evacuation is being carried out by teams from the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Sarajevo Canton and the Civil Protection of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

- The shell was found at a depth of 20 to 25 cm when workers were removing the base, and all work has been stopped - Solak said.

Traffic in the Skenderija area will also be stopped due to this situation.

Solak said it is not known how long the shell has been at this location and how it was not found earlier when the plateau was being repaired.

Police are warning citizens to stay away and remove parked vehicles from this location.
