(Patria) - Within just 24 hours, two reputable newspapers have published completely contradictory information about when the European Football Championship, which was supposed to be held this summer in 12 cities across 12 countries, will take place.
The reputable French sports daily L’Equipe reported that the EURO will be postponed for a year due to the coronavirus epidemic, while the English newspaper The Telegraph reported that the European Championship could be organized in December of this year.
In circumstances where it is unknown when, or if at all, national championships will be completed, and given the fact that the virus is spreading in some countries that are supposed to host the EURO, it is almost certain that it cannot be organized while guaranteeing complete health security for participants and fans.
L’Equipe claims that the decision has already been made, as UEFA is expected to announce that EURO 2020 will become EURO 2021.
However, on the "Island", they claim otherwise. Namely, according to their information from confidential sources, the football championship will be moved to December and will be held in the winter.
“UEFA will consider moving the EURO to allow the Premier League and other club competitions to catch up on matches due to the chaos caused by the coronavirus,” writes The Telegraph, adding that the European Championship will not be played next summer.
The European Championship is scheduled to start on June 12 this year with a match between Turkey and Italy in Rome.
UEFA has announced that a major video conference will be held next Tuesday with the heads of all 55 member associations and representatives of the ECA, FIFPro, and European leagues to discuss further steps that European football will take in the context of the new coronavirus pandemic, on the topic of domestic and European club competitions, as well as EURO 2020.
The national football team of Bosnia and Herzegovina has not yet secured a place at EURO 2020. Our footballers have two playoff matches ahead of them, the first against Northern Ireland, scheduled to be played on March 26 in Zenica, and if they overcome that hurdle, the "Dragons" will play for a place at the EURO against the winner of the match between Slovakia and the Republic of Ireland.
