EU sent a clear message to Vulin: glorifying war criminals is unacceptable

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Emanuele Giaufret, head of the EU Delegation in Serbia, spoke with Serbian Minister of Internal Affairs Aleksandar Vulin amid ongoing tensions over the intention of the civil sector to remove a mural of convicted war criminal Ratko Mladić.

Vulin and Giaufret discussed these events, where Giaufret stated that the EU has a clear and firm stance on the need to effectively bridge the legacy of the past, refrain from glorifying war criminals and denying war crimes, and work to promote reconciliation.

The EU official reminded that civil society organizations and organizations dedicated to the protection and defense of human rights play a key role in raising awareness of civil and political rights, and that they must be allowed to work unhindered in this regard, the EU Delegation stated.

Vulin said that the Ministry of Internal Affairs protects the safety of all citizens, including protest participants, regardless of whether they are for or against the removal of the controversial mural, the EU Delegation stated.
