EU on events in Banja Luka: Freedom of expression is key to any democratic society

SARAJevo, (Patria) - The EU Delegation and the Office of the EU Special Representative in BiH, in agreement with the heads of missions of EU member states in Bosnia and Herzegovina, issued a statement regarding the latest events in Banja Luka.

"Over the past few days, we have been closely monitoring events in Banja Luka concerning the protests of the 'Justice for David' group. The right to peaceful assembly, along with freedom of expression, is key to any functional democratic society.

We have taken note of the clarifications sent by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Republika Srpska following yesterday's and today's arrests.

In this regard, we emphasize the importance of due process within the legal framework, as well as the right to justice. We will continue to closely monitor the situation, especially concerning the ongoing investigation and its judicial outcome," the EU statement reads.
