Baroness Catherine Ashton, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs, has postponed her plans to visit BiH, confirmed for the BiH news agency Patria (NAP) from the EU Delegation in Sarajevo. EU Delegation spokesperson in Sarajevo, Andy McGuffie, said that Ashton plans to visit BiH as soon as possible, "in the coming weeks":
- The date of her visit will be announced as soon as possible - McGuffie stated.
Unofficially, Ashton decided to postpone her arrival in Sarajevo for several reasons. First and foremost is the more pressing business in Ukraine. Due to violent protests and a deep crisis, the EU has an already scheduled extraordinary meeting of foreign ministers.
In addition, the failure of the latest negotiations between political leaders and Enlargement Commissioner Štefan Füle did not give Ashton much reason or motivation to visit Sarajevo just a few days after that debacle.
