Esad Bajtal: Under what principles can BH Bloc enter into government with national parties

SARAJevo, (Patria) - This question /whether BH Bloc should enter into government with national parties/ can be viewed from a principled and situational perspective. When viewed from a principled perspective, the matter is very clear, in fact, it is black and white, it concerns two concepts: oil and water, which cannot mix. A situational, or as philosophers say, a contextual view of the situation states that from the perspective of the primary goal, which is the state, one should or must consider this second possibility as well, said sociologist Esad Bajtal on Wednesday evening in the show „Odgovorite ljudima“ on Federal Television, answering the question of editor Darjan Babić whether BH Bloc should enter into government with national parties or remain in opposition.

A group of intellectuals had previously stated that the entry of BH Bloc into government with national parties after the October 7 elections would mean the collapse of the left in BiH, which consists of SDP, DF, and Our Party.

„That second possibility, that entry into coalition, has one condition without which it cannot happen“, said Bajtal, explaining that the concept of BH Bloc with national parties in government must contain all mechanisms of civic interest.

„If entering that story ensures the rise of citizenry, and the final struggle for true, modern, civilizational goals, then of course, it can be considered“. Bajtal said that today in Bosnia and Herzegovina there are no citizens, but rather „we have separated ethno-subjects, who will forever be at a loss until they step out as united citizens“. Bajtal also believes that the eventual entry of BH Bloc into government must have the goal of solving these problems, not just entering government for the sake of power.

When asked if BH Bloc can mitigate nationalism in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bajtal said that the task of BH Bloc, as he understands it, is precisely that, to mitigate nationalism, or to remove it from the political scene as it has been removed where citizens have found the strength to do so through their own consciousness.

„BH Bloc must move towards that goal, it must be open and transparent in order to gain the support of citizens“, said Bajtal. 

For Bajtal, the criteria of any policy have only three points: life, the dignity of citizens, and the future of their children.

„Any policy that betrays these principles is a failed policy, the future will certainly not favor it, no matter what it does“, said Bajtal.
