Ervin Omerčić on Hajj: The desire for the Kaaba never ends

(Patria) - Ervin Omerčić, a young man from Gradačac, who lives and works in Munich, Germany, was among more than two million Muslims from around the world who gathered in the holy city of Mecca this year to perform the Hajj – the fifth and final fundamental duty in Islam.

Hajj is a prescribed obligation for every adult Muslim who is medically and financially capable of fulfilling it, at least once in their lifetime. For many, it is the spiritual peak of faith – a moment when one returns to the basics, purifies the heart, and gathers all that has carried them through life.

For Ervin, this was not just a flight from Sarajevo to Saudi Arabia. It was, as he says, a process that took time – from desire, through preparations, to the final decision.

– This is my second time in Mecca, and my first time performing Hajj. The emotions are even stronger. The best feeling is when I stood in front of the Kaaba. Simply, emotions overcome you and it's hard to describe in words. No one can remain indifferent to that sight – said Ervin.

Together with a group of pilgrims from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ervin will go through all the rites of Hajj: Umrah, staying at Arafat, spending the night at Muzdalifah, stoning the Jamarat in Mina, and circumambulating the Kaaba and performing Tawaf and Sa'i.

– After Umrah, it was most important for me to come here and perform Hajj. Now that I am here and have experienced this feeling, I plan to visit Mecca with my wife in the future because, simply, the desire for the Kaaba never ends – Omerčić stated.

This year, 2,222 pilgrims from our country are visiting Mecca and Medina. Preparations lasted for months, and the journey, organized in cooperation with guides, medical teams, and logistical support, is significantly easier and of higher quality, so that believers can perform the rites in safety and peace.

– The organization of this year's Hajj is truly at a high level. I am satisfied and recommend everyone to come here. Hajj should be a priority, and everything else will follow – concluded Omerčić.

In the city where he lives, as well as in his hometown of Gradačac, among family, friends, and neighbors, Ervin Omerčić is no longer just a young man who went on a trip. He will now carry a title that brings responsibility, but also deep honor.
