(Patria) - President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in his address on the seventh anniversary of the coup attempt, said that he will not allow July 15, 2016 to be forgotten.
Speaking to the attendees in Istanbul, Erdogan said that FETO structures attempted to overthrow the democratically elected government in that country.
Speaking about the importance of remembering, Erdogan also recalled the words of the first president of the Republic of BiH, the late Alija Izetbegović, who said that "a forgotten genocide is repeated".
“We must bear in mind that, like a forgotten genocide, a forgotten betrayal will stab us in the back in a much more insidious way,” Erdogan said.
Among other things, he said that July 15 was a resistance of those who died for the homeland and the people, and of those who, in the spring of their lives, did not fall before tanks, rifles, and bullets.
During the coup attempt in Turkey, 253 people were killed and more than 2,730 were injured.
15 Temmuz’un yıl dönümünde 85 milyon olarak yine tek yürek, tek bileğiz.
Bu tarihî günde bizleri yalnız bırakmayan kardeşlerime, siyasi partilerin genel başkanlarına ve kıymetli misafirlerimize teşekkür ediyorum. 🇹🇷 pic.twitter.com/HK25r3kPHL— Recep Tayyip Erdoğan (@RTErdogan) July 15, 2023
