Erdogan and AKP achieve convincing victory in Turkish elections

ANKARA, (Patria) - Current Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his Justice and Development Party (AKP) are convincingly leading in the presidential and parliamentary elections, Turkish media report citing unofficial results, Al Jazeera reports.

The closest rival, Muharrem Ince, won a significantly smaller number of votes, Yeni Safak reports.

Hurriyet reports that, after 30 percent of the votes were counted, 58.1 percent of citizens who went to the polls gave their confidence to Erdogan.

At the same time, according to a much smaller sample of counted ballots, the AKP won 51.3 percent of the vote, earning them 374 of the 600 seats in parliament.

Behind them, according to this daily, remained the Republican People's Party (CHP) with 16 percent, or 130 seats.

The candidate of that party, Muharrem Ince, received 28 percent of the vote.

Since Erdogan's AKP is in a coalition with the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), their 53 seats should also be added.

Other Turkish media, TRT and Yeni Safak, also report very similar election results, confirming the victory of Erdogan and his AKP.
