Encaustic painting: Zenica woman paints with an iron instead of a brush

Among the slightly less than 400 artists in the world who draw - with an iron - there is also Zdena Šarić-Pisker from Zenica, writes the Patria News Agency.

Encaustic painting is a drawing technique over 5,000 years old. Instead of paint, artists use wax, and their base can be glass, cardboard, canvas, wood, ceramics, etc. For brushes, besides an iron, they might use a hairdryer, soldering iron, blowtorch, and who knows what else.

- Anything that produces heat can be a brush - says Zdena in an interview with Patria, with a smile.

She discovered encaustic painting by accident. She was working and drawing without even knowing that her work would one day be classified among the oldest arts on the planet.

- An artist from Belgium recognized my work and explained to me that what I was doing was encaustic painting. Five years later, I mastered the technique completely - says Zdena. She adds that it is possible to paint anything you desire with this technique. She mostly paints landscapes.
