Energoinvest failed to fulfill obligations, North Macedonia terminates contract for construction of power line to Albania

(Patria) - The state-owned electricity transmission company of North Macedonia (MEPSO) has terminated the contract with Energoinvest for the construction of a 400-kilovolt power line to Albania.

The contractor's failure to fulfill obligations, as well as demands for additional payments, led to the current termination of the contract and the inability to reach an agreement between the two parties, MEPSO stated.

The contract with Energoinvest, concluded on February 7, 2020, with an execution deadline of 30 months, expired on May 30, 2023, MEPSO added. The project was valued at 17.2 million euros, Indikator.ba reports.

Since the beginning of the project, 24 out of the planned 269 pole foundations have been built, which is 8.9 percent, and 51.2 percent of the equipment has been delivered, the electricity transmission company added.

MEPSO announces that it will issue a new tender to select a new contractor to complete the project.

Currently, North Macedonia has 400 kV interconnections with Greece, Serbia, Kosovo, and Bulgaria.
