Energy Transition of BiH Key Topic of the Fifth Energy Summit

NEUM, (Patria) - The energy transition of Bosnia and Herzegovina is the key topic of the fifth Energy Summit, which will be held in Neum from April 16 to 18 this year. What is the current position of the energy sector of Bosnia and Herzegovina, what are the goals in relation to European energy policy, and what exactly needs to be done to achieve these goals are questions that will be discussed by government representatives, international and domestic experts, investors, non-governmental organizations, and the academic and professional community. 

With the aim of supporting the energy transition process in Bosnia and Herzegovina, conference participants will offer recommendations that can serve as guidelines for government representatives in this very important process.

In practice, the energy transition represents a systemic shift from conventional energy systems to new systems that involve an increased share of renewable energy sources, greater energy savings, and a more active role for energy consumers. It is a structural change occurring worldwide and is one of the requirements of EU energy policy. 
Therefore, Bosnia and Herzegovina must find a path that will enable it to realize its potential as a net exporter of electricity and join regional and global trends in the energy transition.

“The path to this goal is long and involves the adoption of adequate laws and their consistent implementation. That is why we gather all decision-makers and those affected by this process in one place, to jointly arrive at solutions that can offer progressive energy policy,” emphasized the director of the USAID EIA project, Ognjen Marković.

In addition to positive effects on the natural environment, the energy transition will, as indicated in the directives of EU policy that will soon become binding for BiH, also contribute to energy security and economic growth in BiH. With more energy efficiency and more renewable energy sources, which also entail the creation of a regional and pan-European energy market, significant savings in energy and money are achieved.

The organizers of the fifth Energy Summit are the USAID Energy Investment Activity (EIA) project, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH through the projects „Promotion of Renewable Energy in BiH“ and „Promotion of Energy Efficiency in BiH“, and the British Embassy Sarajevo, under the patronage of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH, the State Electricity Regulatory Commission, the Regulatory Commission for Energy in the Federation of BiH, and the Regulatory Commission for Energy of the Republika Srpska.
