Emirati release Edin Gačanin, he will not be extradited to the Netherlands

(Patria) - Edin Gačanin Tito has been released, Istraga.ba has learned from multiple sources in the Netherlands.

Tito, in fact, spent only a few days in "custody". According to Istraga's information, he will not be extradited to the Netherlands, as the authorities of the United Arab Emirates have again found "formal reasons" to release the leader of one of the most powerful drug cartels.

Gačanin was released late last week, and the Dutch authorities, who requested his extradition, were informed. The release of Edin Gačanin Tito coincides with a hacker attack on the portal Istraga.ba, which began on April 18.

We remind you that on March 17 this year, Dutch media reported that Gačanin had been arrested in Dubai. As confirmed to Istraga.ba from multiple sources, this arrest was just a maneuver to "remove" pressure from the Dutch authorities, as well as those in the Emirates.

Dubai: Edin Gačanin arrested, Dutch prosecution seeking his extradition

(Patria) - At the request of the Dutch Public Prosecutor's Office, convicted drug dealer Edin Gačanin, leader of the "Tito and ..." cartel, was arrested in Dubai.

Tito, namely, at the end of 2023, admitted to the Dutch judiciary that he had smuggled 2.4 tons of cocaine and about eight tons of chemicals for the production of narcotic drugs into that country. This agreement implied that Tito would plead guilty and, in return, be sentenced to seven years in prison and serve his sentence wherever he wished.

However, Edin Gačanin did not spend a single day in prison. He continued to live freely in Dubai, where he owns an apartment in the Burj Khalifa building, worth about 40 million marks.

At the beginning of this year, Dutch authorities came under pressure after a documentary film about this super cartel was released. To calm the public, the Dutch agreed with the Emirates that Tito would be arrested again and that a decision would be made on his extradition request.

Immediately after the "staged" arrest, Tito lived in a villa in the Emirates, and only towards the end of his "extradition" custody was he transferred to a prison from which he was finally released late last week.

Edin Gačanin Tito is the leader of the Tito and Dino drug cartel. This cartel smuggles tons of cocaine from South America to Europe, Asia, Australia, and Africa. In 2017 alone, police agencies seized over ten tons of cocaine from this cartel.

The cartel laundered part of the money earned from cocaine through Bosnia and Herzegovina. Among the associates of this cartel are former and current members of the FUP Special Unit, businessman Gordan Memija, and others.

The current Minister of Foreign Affairs, Elmedin Konaković, who has built special ties between BiH and the United Arab Emirates during his mandate, also has connections with cartel members. It is precisely the Emirates that do not want to extradite Edin Gačanin Tito to the Dutch judiciary.

Edin Gačanin Tito is also on the US blacklist.

"Edin Gačanin is one of the world's largest drug traffickers. Originally from Sarajevo, Gačanin is the leader of the Tito and Dino cartel, which includes members of his family and friends from BiH.

He has participated or attempted to participate in activities or transactions that have materially contributed to the international proliferation of illicit drugs or their precursors, or that pose a significant risk of materially contributing to them," reads the OFAC decision by which the US sanctioned Gačanin.
