Emina Zaimović ran 5 kilometres in mining gear, thus congratulating her colleagues from RMU Kakanj on Miners' Day

(Patria) - Every year on 21 December, Bosnia and Herzegovina marks Miners' Day, a holiday dedicated to people who devote their lives and efforts to one of the most difficult professions. This day has a deep symbolic meaning, as it commemorates 21 December 1920, when miners from Kreka and other mines across BiH launched the famous strike in protest against inhumane working conditions and exploitation. Their struggle went down in history as a symbol of courage and solidarity.

Even today, miners work in difficult conditions to provide energy and raw materials for society. Their contribution to the economy and development of Bosnia and Herzegovina is invaluable.

And while miners received only a few greetings today on Miners' Day, Emina Zaimović, an employee of RMU Kakanj, decided to congratulate her colleagues on this holiday in a unique way.

She came to tonight's Advent Run 5K race, held in Sarajevo, dressed in a dark blue mining suit and a mining helmet. She congratulated all her fellow colleagues on the holiday and emphasised that conditions are difficult, but they manage through their hard work.

"This year was tough for us. There were problems in the underground mine, there was a landslide at the open pit, but we managed to fight through. We didn't meet the plan, but the colleagues are trying their best," said Zaimović.

She pointed out that the miner's bread is truly bread with seven crusts.

"Personally, I have never gone down into the mine. I have a wish and I hope, God willing, it will come true. They enter the bowels of the earth, it's not easy for them. I know colleagues who have four children each. Recently, the wife of one colleague passed away, and he, with his four children, thinks every day when he goes down into the mine whether he will come out. It's a hard life," said Zaimović.
