(Patria) - Elektroprivreda BiH recorded a loss of 331 million KM last year.

The General Director of EP BiH, Sanel Buljubašić, said today at a press conference in Sarajevo that there is a significant drop in electricity production.

He added that surplus electricity last year amounted to only 52 GWh, while in previous years it averaged over 2,000 GWh.

According to him, the causes are a lack of coal, hydrological conditions, and the age of production facilities.

Buljubašić reminds that the current Management took office on August 24, 2024, and found a loss of 55 million KM, and after revising the Business Plan for 2023, the projected loss was 80 million KM.

He emphasized that in February 2024, the Financial Report on Business Operations for 2023 showed a loss of 140 million KM.

He points out that the Decision on the temporary cessation of production in RMU Zenica corrected the value of receivables in the amount of 69 million KM.

And in June 2024, the Report on the assessment of the value of investments in the mines of the Concern reduced the value by 117 million KM, reports Fena.

Buljubašić specified that in 2023, coal procurement was planned in the amount of 5.4 million tons, of which only 3.5 million tons were delivered.

He explained that the mines of the Concern recorded a loss of 39 million KM in 2009, and in 2023 it amounts to 117 million KM, while the total accumulated loss at the end of 2023 is 1.053 billion KM.

Among the next projects of EPBiH, Buljubašić announced the revitalization of Block 4 at TE Tuzla and Block 7 at TE Kakanj, then desulfurization, and the construction of renewable energy sources by 2030, worth 1.5 billion KM.

He warned that in the last five years, EPBiH has been operating with 500 fewer employees, which has led to a shortage of labor in production and electricity distribution.
