Power Engineers of the World Arrive in Sarajevo

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The International Council on Large Electric Systems (CIGRÉ) has decided to hold its 14th session of the Administrative Council in Sarajevo in the summer of 2023. The candidacy of the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, submitted by the Bosnia and Herzegovina Committee of CIGRÉ at the 135th session of this council held at the end of August in Rio de Janeiro, was supported by the majority of members. The membership of the International Council on Large Electric Systems consists of 96 national committees, and representatives from 58 countries participate in the work of the Administrative Council.

"This is a great recognition for Bosnia and Herzegovina, its capital, and our committee, as we will host a global event attended by eminent experts in the field of power engineering. At the beginning of the 21st century, this field has dynamic development based on new knowledge and technologies, and it is quite certain that the session in Sarajevo will also seek answers to the challenges ahead," said Edhem Bičakčić, President of the Bosnia and Herzegovina Committee of CIGRÉ, on this occasion.

Previous hosts of the members of the CIGRÉ Administrative Council, apart from Paris where the headquarters of this organization is located, were mostly well-known world metropolises and cities of large countries such as Beijing, Buenos Aires, Seoul, Hamburg, Warsaw, Copenhagen, Bilbao... They are now joined by Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina, which have a long tradition in the field of power engineering, as it has been present in the world since the very beginning of electrification. Here, already in 1888, not long after Tesla's invention, the first electric power plant was built.

Edhem Bičakčić announced that the Management Board of the Bosnia and Herzegovina Committee of CIGRÉ will be informed next week at a session in Sarajevo about the decision of the Administrative Council regarding the trust placed in this committee, Sarajevo, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, which practically marks the beginning of organizational preparations for holding this major global event.
