Experts: BiH needs 358 million KM for flood protection system!

Bosnia and Herzegovina must invest almost 350 million marks in flood protection projects, according to a document by experts from domestic authorities, the European Union, the World Bank, and the United Nations on the assessment of damages from the May catastrophe in Bosnia and Herzegovina, reports the BH News Agency (NAP).

Namely, according to completed research, data on damages, as well as financial needs for recovery and reconstruction in BiH have been presented. The total damages and losses caused by the floods amount to 3.9 billion marks, but the estimated needs for recovery and reconstruction are around 3.5 billion KM.

Among the largest items proposed by European experts, for which BiH should spend both international aid and domestic funds in the coming period, is the flood protection system. For it, as stated, 358,800,000 KM will be needed. This document does not specify what kind of projects are involved, but after the floods in May caused enormous damage and claimed the lives of at least 25 people, it is clear that the country needs an effective protection system.

In addition, for the reconstruction of transport infrastructure destroyed and damaged in the floods, according to these estimates, another 691 million marks will be needed, NAP reports.
