Ecological spa near Kakanj: A hospital for lung patients was supposed to be built here

The ski center on Mount Ponijeri near Kakanj has been open for all winter sports enthusiasts since Tuesday, writes the Bosnian news agency Patria (NAP).

For those who do not like large crowds and would rather spend time on one of the beautiful Bosnian mountains, Ponijeri can be the perfect destination.

The altitude of Ponijeri is about 1000 m, and the surrounding peaks are somewhat higher. It is an ideal altitude for rest and recreation. The air on Ponijeri is exceptionally clean and rich in oxygen. They are significantly distant from environmental pollutants.

Sixty years ago, Ponijeri was agricultural land for haymaking and livestock breeding. After World War II, the construction of a hospital for lung patients was planned at the Ponijeri - Vrheblje location, but the project was moved near Sarajevo.
