Teams still working on landslide remediation in Ribnica near Kakanj

Teams from the Kakanj Brown Coal Mine are still working on the remediation of a landslide in part of the village of Ribnica, about seven kilometres from the centre of Kakanj, Patria reports.

Due to a waste rock slide at the Kakanj mine's landfill site at the end of last week, the flow of the Ribnica River was interrupted, creating a large accumulation of water near the village of the same name. The water subsequently triggered a landslide. The mine's management and the Rescue Team are taking all measures to restore the flow of the Ribnica River as soon as possible and prevent the spread of the landslide, the mine announced.

Due to the landslide, a section of the local road Donji Kakanj – Mramor – Brnjic has been closed. Residents are using alternative routes.

The mine explains that the most important thing now is to return the Ribnica River to its riverbed and enable its unimpeded flow to the Bosna River, Patria reports.
