Efendić: Vojin Mijatović asked SDP not to vote for 'General Mehmed Alagić' street

(Patria) - The President of the Party for BiH and the Mayor of Novi Grad Municipality, Semir Efendić, spoke today regarding the naming of a newly formed street in this municipality after General Mehmed Alagić.

"When the proposal to name a street in Novi Grad after General Mehmed Alagić reached the Sarajevo Canton Assembly, the Vice-President of SDP, Vojin Mijatović, individually called SDP representatives in the assembly, telling them not to vote for naming the street after a 'war criminal'.

Today, Vojin Mijatović is deciding on the distribution of BH Telecom profits, and he was in the Government of Republika Srpska when Telekom RS was sold to Telekom Serbia. This individual, who is not from the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, has more influence in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina today than any Bosniak political representative, thanks to SDP and their senseless policy, which is conducted exclusively to the detriment of those who elect them," stated Efendić.

The news published by the KS Government on May 30, 2022, states that by the decision of the Sarajevo Canton Assembly, the newly formed street in the Nova Otoka settlement, in the area of Novi Grad Municipality, will be named 'General Mehmed Alagić' street, after a prominent commander and hero of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

During the aggression against BiH, General Alagić was the commander of the Third and Seventh Corps of the Army of RBiH. He will be remembered for the operations to liberate Vlašić, Kupres, Donji Vakuf, and Sanski Most. He passed away on March 7, 2003, and was buried in his native Fajtovci near Sanski Most.

The decision was made at the proposal of the Commission for Marking, Preserving, and Honoring Historical Events and Personalities of the KS Assembly and based on the conclusion of the Municipal Council Novi Grad.
