Efendić: The sooner the governments of the FBiH and the Sarajevo Canton leave power, the sooner the situation can be normalised

(Patria) - I truly believe that both the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Government of the Sarajevo Canton should leave - better today than tomorrow, stated tonight the president of the Party for Bosnia and Herzegovina, Semir Efendić, as a guest on the show '7 Plus' on Hayat television.

- The sooner they end their term, the better it will be for this country - said Efendić, adding that he is not sure that will happen.

He emphasises that he does not understand "how their representatives do not see or do not want to see this absolute rush and that, even within those parties, there is no attempt to change something, to stop them and bring them to reason in all their moves that are clearly detrimental to the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

- Will there be a change in the parliamentary majority, I don't see that happening now. A kind of civil rebellion is more likely - he is sceptical about a change in the ruling majority in the Government of the FBiH, stressing its irresponsibility, while being equally harsh towards the behaviour of the Government of the Sarajevo Canton.

Efendić states that the situation in the Sarajevo Canton is also getting increasingly difficult, and it remains to be seen how long they can hold out with basic budget financing, until when they can endure it, and their fate will depend on that.

- Whether the partners within themselves will decide on some changes due to increasing public pressure remains to be seen, but the sooner both these governments leave, the sooner it will be possible for the situation to begin to normalise - says Efendić.

He also spoke about the election of a mayor, which was accelerated by the decision of the now former mayor Benjamina Karić to take up the mandate of the head of the Novo Sarajevo Municipality.

- Our current situation is that the mayor accepted the mandate of the head of the Novo Sarajevo Municipality and that the City Council in its old composition must appoint an acting mayor, who will perform this function until the election of a new city council and a new mayor.

The task of choosing a new mayor naturally depends on the formation of the new composition of the City Council, in which four city municipalities each give seven councillors who then elect the mayor.

This process is very specific for Sarajevo and it would be much better if we had a direct election of the mayor because here the election result guarantees nothing to anyone and at this moment it is very difficult to say how it will actually turn out in the end.

There is a lot of room for various manipulations and malversations, so it is enough to recall the previous election process and the attempt to have Bogić Bogićević elected as mayor.

I don't think that process will look any better now - emphasises Efendić, repeating that political support should be given to activities leading to the direct election of the mayor of Sarajevo.
