Efendić: We will help people who lost everything in the fire, but I hope that other levels of government will also do so this time

(Patria) - Following today's fire that engulfed the Kvadrant market in Otoka, leaving more than 100 people jobless and without a livelihood, the mayor of Novi Grad municipality, Semir Efendić, also commented.

"When a fire broke out in a residential building in Nusreta Prohića street in Buča Potok two years ago, there were hundreds of comments that someone had 'set their sights' on the location, that buildings would be constructed there, etc. None of that happened, the building was renovated as it was, with the added benefit that the residents received a furnished attic to have more usable space.

The same applies to the market in Otoka; we will do everything, together with other levels of government, to help the people whose livelihood depends on the burnt market.

Here, it can only be noted that after the fire in Buča Potok, the municipality bore the costs of accommodation and food for the citizens who were left homeless for more than a year and a half, while some of those who appeared at the fire site on the first day and promised help, never reappeared nor participated in the reconstruction of the damaged homes. I hope that this time it will be different," Efendić stated.

Today, the Mayor of Sarajevo Benjamina Karić, Prime Minister of KS Nihad Uk, and Minister of Communal Economy Almir Bečarević also promised assistance.
