Education on the Application of the Law on Confiscation of Illegally Acquired Property in the FBiH

From October 4 to 7, the 8th Professional Advisory Meeting for Prosecutors in Bosnia and Herzegovina is being held at the Hotel Sunce in Neum. The meeting is organized by the Association of Prosecutors of the FBiH and the Center for Education of Judges and Prosecutors in the FBiH, with financial and professional support from a number of international and domestic partner organizations, reports the Patria news agency.

As part of the Advisory Meeting, the Center for Crime Prevention Policy Research from Sarajevo (CPRC) will organize a panel titled "Confiscation of Property Gain Acquired through Criminal Offenses."

The panel is an integral part of the project "Strengthening Local Capacities in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Fight against Corruption and Serious Forms of Crime through Confiscation of Property Gain Acquired through Criminal Offenses," which is implemented with financial support from the British Embassy in BiH - Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO). The panel will be held on October 4, starting at 10:30 AM.

The goal of the project is to strengthen the capacities of institutions in the Federation of BiH for the most efficient implementation of the Law on Confiscation of Illegally Acquired Property through Criminal Offenses, through education, training, and raising the level of knowledge among professionals who implement this law in competent institutions.

This primarily refers to courts, prosecutor's offices, police authorities, the Tax Administration, the Financial Police, inspection bodies, financial market regulators, and others. Also, the project aims to strengthen the Federal Agency for Management of Confiscated Property, which was established by this Law.

The project lasts until April 1, 2017, and during this period, cooperation will be established with numerous domestic and international partner institutions and experts. The project also plans to organize a professional study visit to gain insight into the experiences of other countries in the European Union and the region in the area of applying regulations on confiscation of property gain acquired through criminal offenses.

After the implementation of this project, it is expected that the competent institutions in the Federation of BiH will be equipped to comprehensively and systematically apply the Law on Confiscation of Illegally Acquired Property through Criminal Offenses, in order to clearly demonstrate that "crime does not pay," the CPRC announced.
