Edin Numankadić donates diptych 'Zapisi' to the University of Sarajevo

(Patria) - Prominent Bosnian-Herzegovinian artist Edin Numankadić has donated a diptych of paintings titled "Zapisi" to the University of Sarajevo. This noble act contributes to enriching the University's cultural heritage and testifies to his long-standing dedication to art and education.

Edin Numankadić, born in 1948 in Sarajevo, is one of the most important representatives of the contemporary visual art scene in Bosnia and Herzegovina. He began his artistic career in the 1970s, and during his prolific creative period, he received numerous awards and recognitions, including the Order of French Knight of Literature and Arts in 2021, which affirmed his exceptional contribution to art.

Numankadić is known for his innovative approaches to painting, but also for constantly seeking new forms of expression. His earlier works are characterized by color fields and analytical approaches, while his later work is marked by the use of objects found in everyday life, so-called objet trouvé. He reached his artistic peak with the destruction of his pre-war works, which is considered his brave and radical artistic leap.

He is one of the founders of several significant art groups, such as "1+1+1", "Prostor-Oblik", and "KAMMEN", and his influence on the development of the visual art scene in Bosnia and Herzegovina is irreplaceable. Although retired, Edin Numankadić remains active, and his work is recognized beyond the borders of our country, having had the opportunity to participate twice in the prestigious Venice Biennale.

The diptych "Zapisi", which is now part of the University of Sarajevo's collection, carries symbolic and artistic value, reflecting the connection between education and art. On this occasion, Numankadić was received today at the premises of the University of Sarajevo Rectorate by Rector Prof. Dr. Tarik Zaimović, Vice-Rector for Art, Artistic Research, Culture and Sports Prof. Mr. Arma Tanović Branković, and Senior Research Associate at the Center for Research and Development Mr. Sc. Adela Nurković Kulenović.

The University expresses its sincere gratitude to Edin Numankadić for this exceptional gift, which further enriches the cultural and artistic scene of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as for all he has done for the art and culture of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
