Džumhur: It's hard for me and I truly regret this defeat

The best tennis players from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Damir Džumhur and Mirza Bašić, failed to advance to the third round of the first Grand Slam tournament of the season, the Australian Open in Melbourne, reports the news agency Patria.

Džumhur was defeated by the 16th-ranked player in the world, Belgian David Goffin, with a score of 1:3, by sets 4:6, 6:0, 4:6, 2:6.

- I have something to regret. For the first time I can say I have something to regret, even though I was playing against the 15th-ranked player in the world. After the first set, in which I also had a chance to celebrate, I played a perfect second set. And in the third set I started well and took a 4:1 lead with two breaks of serve.

At that moment I already started thinking that I could win this match. However, Goffin started playing a different game, and I fell for it and simply couldn't find a way out - Džumhur pointed out.

And then, as Džumhur says, the situation went downhill.

- I simply don't know how to explain what happened. In several games I had a lead of 30-0, but I couldn't finish the job. I gave him a chance to come back into the match and he took it. He completely recovered, thanks to my mistakes. It's hard for me and I truly regret this defeat, because I am aware that I missed a great opportunity to advance to the third round.

I had the victory in my hands and I let it slip, but now at least I know that I am on par with the top players and what things I need to improve in my game to beat them. Yes, I suffered a defeat, but I learned a lesson. Although it's hard for me, I will try to recover as soon as possible and continue where I left off at other tournaments - said Damir Džumhur.
