The best Bosnian-Herzegovinian tennis players Damir Džumhur and Mirza Bašić failed to qualify for the third round of the first Grand Slam tournament of the season, the Australian Open in Melbourne, reports the Patria News Agency.
Džumhur was defeated by the 16th-ranked player in the world, Belgian David Goffin, with a score of 1:3, by sets 4:6, 6:0, 4:6, 2:6, while Bašić was bettered by the sixth seed in the Australian competition, Czech Tomas Berdych, with a score of 3:0 (6:4, 6:0, 6:3).
Džumhur missed a great opportunity to repeat his success from two years ago, when he reached the third round of the same tournament.
The second Bosnian-Herzegovinian representative, Mirza Bašić, offered worthy resistance to the world's sixth player Tomas Berdych, and by reaching the second round of the Grand Slam tournament, he achieved the greatest success of his career.
