Džonlagić on the consequences of the minimum wage decision: 2,900 layoffs in Sarajevo Canton in the last month and a half

(Patria) - Director of the Employment Service of Sarajevo Canton (KS) Amina Džonlagić spoke on the show "Good day, BiH" on Hayat TV about the consequences that the decision of the FBiH Government on the minimum wage has caused in the area of KS.

- We have 3,100 newly registered unemployed, of which 2,900 are from employment due to layoffs in the last month and a half. We can only monitor the factual situation on the ground.

Compared to the previous year, this is an increase in layoffs in KS. People also register with us on other grounds. The numbers I mention are those who have newly arrived from employment - Džonlagić points out.

She states that a data analysis should be conducted, which will be ready in April. After that, it will be possible to discuss the consequences of increasing the minimum wage to 1,000 KM.

- We will conduct a quality analysis after the first quarter. I expressed concern about our financial plan in terms of alarming data. We will only be able to express that concern in April after this analysis.

The increase in layoffs is present, and again it all depends on what is alarming to whom. Every increase is alarming, but the relationship of those assessing how alarming it is is important - Džonlagić emphasizes.

The increase in the minimum wage will certainly also have consequences for the Employment Service of KS. The director says that problems may arise if the items financed by the Service have to be increased.

- The Service is financed from unemployment contributions. Our revenues increase when contributions are raised. We have a large number of employees, and the Service will certainly have money at its disposal.

Institutions may spend money according to the planned budget, where we may have to increase some items. Or to increase items for employment. This can cause problems because we must not deviate from the plan - Džonlagić explains.
