Funeral prayer for Halil Brzina to be held in Sarajevo and Stolac on Saturday

(Patria) - The funeral prayer for General Halil Brzina will be held tomorrow, July 19, 2025, in Sarajevo and his hometown of Stolac.

In Sarajevo, the funeral prayer will be held in the courtyard of the Gazi Husrev-beg Mosque after the afternoon prayer. In Stolac, the funeral prayer will be held on the same day in the courtyard of the Careva Mosque at 6:00 PM, and the burial will take place in Tekija "Stolac", the Association of Generals announced.

"We invite all comrades-in-arms, patriots, and citizens of our homeland to pay tribute to our comrade and friend and to jointly bid him farewell from this world".

Halil Brzina passed away on Thursday, July 17, at the KCUS.

He was born on December 23, 1953, in Stolac, Bosnia and Herzegovina, where he completed primary and secondary school, and then graduated from the Faculty of Organizational Sciences in Belgrade, earning the title of graduate engineer of organizational sciences. For his academic success and the best defended diploma thesis, he received the "November Award" from the University of Belgrade in the 1978/79 academic year. After completing his studies, he moved to Zenica and started working at Željezara Zenica in 1979.

He participated in organizing resistance to aggression and forming the first units for the defense of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina. With the formation of the First Zenica Brigade, he served as the commander of the 7th Battalion, which became part of the 7th Muslim Brigade of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina on November 17, 1992. From November 17, 1992, he served as Assistant Commander for Logistics of the 7th Muslim Brigade, and in August 1993, he was appointed Deputy Commander of the same brigade, holding this position until June 1995. In June 1995, he was appointed Commander of the Brigade.

By order of the Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1997, he was promoted to the rank of Brigadier General.

With the transformation of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina into the Army of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the disbandment of the 3rd Corps of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, he was appointed Commander of the 7th Mechanized Brigade of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina Army.

By decree of the Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina on February 28, 2000, he was appointed Commander of the 1st Corps of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina Army, and by decision of the same institution, he was retired on December 1, 2000.

For special merits in the defense-liberation war, he was awarded several recognitions, among which we highlight: the "Golden Lily" badge and the "Golden Coat of Arms with Swords" Order by decree of the Presidency of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

He completed postgraduate studies on the topic "Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Contemporary World" at the Faculty of Political Sciences of the University of Sarajevo. He was a member and one of the founders of the "Association of Generals of BiH", where he served as Chairman of the Association's Management Board and chairman of other bodies.
