Džaferović in Bužim: Alija Izetbegović the most significant figure in modern history of BiH

(Patria) - Member of the BiH Presidency Šefik Džaferović visited Bužim for the ceremonial opening of the square “Alija Izetbegović”.

"Respected mother of the hero of the defensive-liberation war, the late Izet Nanić, respected families of martyrs, families of fallen soldiers, war veterans with disabilities, demobilised soldiers, esteemed officials from all levels of government in Bosnia and Herzegovina, my dear people of Bužim. It is a great honour for me to be here today in this heroic city, heroic Bužim, which has shown everyone, both in Bosnia and Herzegovina and in the world, what homeland means and how to defend the homeland of Bosnia and Herzegovina. We are all grateful to you for that and we will be forever grateful.

Thank you for naming this beautiful place, this square, after the late President Alija Izetbegović. The late President Alija Izetbegović is the most significant figure in the modern history of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It will forever be recorded that he led Bosnia and Herzegovina at the time when it was most difficult in its history. Under his leadership, our Bosnia and Herzegovina escaped the jaws of great power politics and became an independent state, a subject of international law. This is a historic achievement and it rarely happens in history.

Alija Izetbegović led Bosnia and Herzegovina and was at the head of the forces that secured the independence of this country. After the aggression against BiH began, Alija Izetbegović led all patriotic forces in the defence of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Bosnia and Herzegovina was defended. That is why Alija Izetbegović is the most significant figure in the modern history of Bosnia and Herzegovina. President Alija Izetbegović was a statesman in the truest sense of the word. He was a thinker, a humanist and a democrat. We will always remember our late President Alija Izetbegović. This is one of the ways we remember him and the relationship we have towards him. Thank you, dear people of Bužim, for recognising this and for naming this square after the late President Alija Izetbegović.

Dear friends, today we are here to mark the completion of the construction of one project, not a large one, but for this community a very large and very important project. I wish that there will be as many such and similar projects in the future, especially those related to development, education, health, and the economy, in Bužim, in the entire Una-Sana Canton, and in the whole of Bosnia and Herzegovina", said Džaferović.
