Džaferović: Everything agreed upon must go through BiH institutions

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - BiH Presidency member Šefik Džaferović stated after the meeting with Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Gabriel Escobar that the US is BiH's most important partner.

“They are the guarantor of the development of Dayton BiH as a multi-ethnic state where there must be no security challenges. No one in BiH has the right to unilaterally undermine the achieved level of reforms or the built institutions. BiH must continue on its European path, fulfilling the obligations from the EC's Opinion and the adopted Reform Program,” said Džaferović.

He emphasized the need for Western Balkan countries to cooperate within the Berlin Process under the EU.

Džaferović added that the issue of BiH's borders and its neighbors should be resolved in the same way they were on the day the Dayton Agreement was signed.

“BiH must have access to the open sea, the property issue must be resolved, and court rulings must be fully respected.”

When asked if they discussed sanctions and Milorad Dodik, Džaferović said he did not deal with those issues.

“But it is important that there is no unilateral interpretation or destruction of any reform. Everything we have done in the last 26 years has been in accordance with the Dayton Peace Agreement.

Peace and stability will be preserved, and we must develop our regional cooperation and follow our EU and NATO path. Everything must be resolved through BiH institutions, and the international community is helping us. Everything that is agreed upon will have to go through BiH institutions,” he said.

When asked what he specifically expects from Escobar, he said they did not deal with those issues, but he thinks that anyone who takes these actions cannot go without sanctions.
