Džaferović on the Border Control Law: Some Provisions in Application Can Cause Serious Problems

(Patria) - The House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH adopted the Law on Border Control at today's urgent session in Sarajevo under an urgent procedure.

The law was supported by delegates from HDZ BiH, SNSD, PDP, SDS, NIP, HDZ 1990, and ZNG, while two delegates from SDA, and one each from SBiH and DF were against it.

The Head of the Bosniak Caucus, Šefik Džaferović, told reporters after the session that the entire opposition part of that caucus was against the law, considering that it contains some provisions that could cause serious problems in application tomorrow.

- There are three important issues, and they relate to the issue of signs, commercial, administrative, and, as stated in the law, welcome signs, then the issue of distribution and sharing of data among all agencies within BiH, and the issue of permits for the transfer of weapons across the state border by diplomatic-consular missions.

The essence is that this law has erased an entire concept called a protected area. The existing law, in addition to the terms border line, border crossing, state border, and protection belt, also had the term protected area.

According to the previous law, this protected area, or belt, extended 300 meters into the territory of BiH from the border line. And in that belt, no signs could be placed except traffic signs and signs indicating a border crossing of the state of BiH.

The current law has regulated this matter in such a way that administrative, tourist, and welcome signs, as stated in the law, can be placed 50 meters from the border line - Džaferović added.
