Džaferović congratulates BiH Independence Day

SARAJevo, (Patria) - On this day in 1992, the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina cast their vote for a sovereign, integral, and democratic Bosnia and Herzegovina.

"It was a vote for freedom and independence, and against tyranny and threats of BiH's disappearance. The generation that set our homeland on the path to independence did something epochal that will be forever remembered in Bosnian-Herzegovinian history. The referendum on the independence of Bosnia and Herzegovina was conducted in strict accordance with the Constitution of Bosnia and Herzegovina and international law, which is why all countries of the world recognized Bosnia and Herzegovina as an independent country," stated Džaferović's congratulatory message, the Presidency announced.

He adds that even today, 28 years later, the values symbolized by March 1 - the rule of law, democracy, and the idea of equality for all citizens - remain the fundamental guiding idea towards the ultimate goal, which is a secure and prosperous Bosnia and Herzegovina, a member of the European Union and NATO alliance.

"I congratulate all citizens at home and in the diaspora on March 1, Independence Day of Bosnia and Herzegovina," Džaferović said in his congratulatory message.
