TWO YEARS SINCE DEATH Family members, FK Željezničar delegation, citizens paid tribute to Ivica Osim

(Patria) - A delegation from FK Željezničar, family and friends paid tribute to the legend of the Blues, Ivica Osim, who left us two years ago.

Today marks two years since the death of a true legend of FK Željezničar and BiH football, Ivica Osim, and on this occasion, family, relatives, friends, veterans, and a delegation from FK Željezničar gathered and paid tribute to Švabo.

Let us remind you, Ivica Osim passed away on May 1, 2022, in Graz. He was buried in the Alley of Greats at the Bare city cemetery on May 14, 2022.

Ivica Osim was born in Sarajevo in 1941. As he grew up in Grbavica, he actively started playing football at Željezničar. After leaving the juniors, he started playing for the first team in the 1959/1960 season. He played for the Club for a total of 11 years, during which he made 250 official appearances and scored 75 goals. In 1970, he moved to France where he played for Strasbourg, Sedan, and Valenciennes.

Strauss, as he was also known due to his blond hair, also played for the national team of former Yugoslavia. He made 16 appearances, scoring eight goals. He was one of the main players in winning second place at the 1968 European Championship.

During that time, he was an uncharacteristically tall player, but with a characteristic long stride. He captivated with his incredible technique and the ease with which he bypassed opposing players. It seemed as if players fell around him, and when he didn't assist his teammates, he would score goals himself. Radio and newspaper reporters often reported with amazement how he managed it all, despite his slow movements. He was also declared the best player in Yugoslavia for 1967.

He ended his playing career in 1978, after which he successfully began his coaching career. He successfully managed Željezničar from 1978 to 1986. He was also the coach of the Yugoslav national team, coach of Partizan, Panathinaikos, Sturm, JEF United, and his last coaching engagement was as the coach of Japan.

In July 2013, Osim was awarded an honorary membership card of FK Željezničar, and Ivica Osim was also declared honorary president of the Club.
