Duratović for NAP: This year more people at the commemoration of the crime at Korićanske stijene

The Association of Camp Inmates in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Regional Association of Camp Inmates Banja Luka are marking today the 25th anniversary of the crime at Korićanske stijene.

On August 21, 1992, the Serbian army executed 200 Bosniaks, camp inmates, who had previously been imprisoned in the Prijedor camps.

In memory of the killed, former camp inmates and members of their families throw 200 roses from the cliffs where the inmates were killed every year.

The president of the Association of Camp Inmates 'Prijedor 92', Mirsad Duratović, told the Patria agency that the entire organization of the commemoration of the crime anniversary passed without major problems, and that this year five buses and about 50 private cars set off from Prijedor towards Korićanske stijene, and an equally large number of people came to the crime site from other cities.

"This year we had a whole bus more of Prijedor residents who wanted to mark the anniversary of the crime," said Duratović.

The shooting of camp inmates at Korićanske stijene was survived by 12 people. Their testimonies helped to prosecute and punish those responsible.

From the Association 'Prijedor 92', they emphasize that by remembering the crimes at Korićanske stijene, they want to send a message that evil should never happen again to anyone.

So far, 11 people have been convicted for the crime at Korićanske stijene.

Darko Mrđa was sentenced to 17 years in prison before the Hague Tribunal in 2004 after pleading guilty to the same crime.

Some of the police officers who participated in the massacre pleaded guilty, namely: Damir Ivanković, Gordan Đurić, and Ljubiša Četić. Ivanković was sentenced to 14 years in 2009, Đurić to 8, and in 2010 Četić was given 13 years in prison.

In addition to them, the following were finally convicted for the crime at Korićanske stijene before the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina:

- Saša Zečević, Marinko Lepoja, and Radoslav Knežević each to 23 years in prison

- Zoran Babić to 22 years,

- Milorad Škrbić and Dušan Janković each to 21 years

- Željko Stojnić to 15 years in prison,

- Acquittals were issued for Petar Čivčić and Branko Topola.

The bodies of all those killed have not yet been found.
