Duraković: The Almighty has already performed a miracle by ensuring Bosnia and Herzegovina's survival so far; it is up to us to do our part

In these dramatic times, a sentence by Khalil Gibran keeps coming to my mind every day:
ASK NOT WHAT YOUR COUNTRY CAN DO FOR YOU, ASK WHAT YOU CAN DO FOR YOUR COUNTRY!

This sentence is attributed to American President Kennedy, but its author is the Lebanese-American poet who became a classic even during his lifetime.

He died in New York in 1931. He was a great humanist, a cosmopolitan, an excellent connoisseur and admirer of both Oriental-Islamic and Western culture. A colossal figure who far, far surpassed his time, even his world.

And while our beautiful Bosnia and Herzegovina has been bleeding for some thirty years, while it is being carved up by global and especially European bureaucrats, poorly disguised as politicians and diplomats, who have devastatingly reduced notions of democracy and humanity, and a strongly cultivated bureaucratic spirit – so many years after Gibran's noble soul and mind – there is no morning into whose embrace I fall without asking myself:
CAN I DO SOMETHING FOR YOU TODAY, MY DEAR HOMELAND?

The Almighty has done as much as He promised – by ensuring my country's survival so far, He has already performed a miracle, but it is up to us to do our part.

For the salvific happiness of absolutely everyone on its soil.
