Duraković tells Dodik: I will not form a commission for an unconstitutional referendum

Srebrenica Municipal Mayor Ćamil Duraković has responded to statements by RS President Milorad Dodik, who spoke about holding a referendum in the RS and said that "no one will be able to disrespect the authorities of the RS, even if his name is Ćamil Duraković."

Duraković told Dodik that he will not form a municipal commission for conducting a referendum that violates the Constitution of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

- I do not know what „instruments for that kind of talk“ Dodik had in mind, and I will not pay attention to his threats. There are no sanctions that can change this decision of mine. No one, even if his name is Milorad Dodik, may violate the Constitution of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

And if Milorad Dodik puts things in better order, he will understand that in our constitutional order the state is above the entity, and that by my decision not to form a municipal commission, I am only defending the legal framework in which the entity of Republika Srpska functions, therefore I respect the entity's authorities more than Dodik does.

However, this statement is worrying for another reason. It clearly shows that Milorad Dodik is preparing some next steps after the referendum. Because how else to explain the sentence about „the time to come“, a time when, apparently, not violating but respecting the Constitution of Bosnia and Herzegovina will be considered a criminal offense? Here we don't even have to read between the lines: Dodik clearly says that if we allow him to hold this referendum, he will not stop there.
I understand the fear of defeat in elections, I understand that SNSD can no longer offer its voters anything but nationalist „games“, but in the municipality I lead, as long as I am at its helm, Bosnia and Herzegovina and its laws will be respected.
