Duraković denies Dodik: Municipalities have the right to a referendum, read the Law

- We heard nothing new yesterday (Sunday, August 14) from the President of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, during his visit to Srebrenica. I regret that it turned out this time as well that there is no institutional cooperation, that the President of Republika Srpska did not announce himself to me as the mayor.

I understand that he came to our town for preparations for the local elections and the promotion of Mladen Grujičić as their joint candidate, but cooperation between institutions must exist even during the campaign, says Ćamil Duraković, Mayor of Srebrenica Municipality, for the Patria News Agency.

For Duraković, there was no surprise that Dodik denied the genocide for the umpteenth time, especially when he comes to Srebrenica, because "denial of genocide is the policy of SNSD".

- He mentioned me at that forum, but it is obvious that Dodik, as the president of the entity, has no information about the projects financed by the Government of Serbia in Srebrenica, and that these are projects that were adopted in the Assembly upon my proposal.

Now Dodik claims that I, as mayor, have not worked in the interest of all citizens. So why didn't the SNSD councilors in the Assembly talk about it and these projects, Duraković explains, adding that his work program, as before, will be implemented in the interest of all citizens of Srebrenica, regardless of their ethnic affiliation.   

Duraković sees Dodik's messages that a referendum on the secession of this municipality from the constitutional and legal system of Republika Srpska cannot be held in Srebrenica as another "president's ignorance of legal regulations".

- There is nothing anti-Dayton about it. It is obvious that the President of Republika Srpska has not read the Statute of the Municipality and the Law on Local Self-Government, which clearly define that municipalities have the right to referendums on issues of local communities - emphasizes Duraković.
