Dunović: Let's not allow the collapse of the Public Broadcasting Service of BiH

FBiH Vice President Milan Dunović addressed the problem that has befallen the Public Broadcasting Service of BiH. The news agency Patria transmits Dunović's statement in its entirety.

 

"At a time when Bosnia and Herzegovina is going through a series of trials, and in order to establish a stable and economically sustainable system on its path to the European Union, the destabilizing calls by certain BiH officials to collapse the Public Broadcasting Service of BiH are more than worrying.

Public broadcasters must be guaranteed freedom in editorial policy, a secure financing model must be provided, and the digitalization process must be finalized. No further division within the Public Broadcasting Service, no calls for the establishment of a new broadcaster, all under the guise of so-called endangerment, existence, and the right to language, will bring nothing but new divisions along ethnic lines.

It is unacceptable for the Chairman of the BiH Presidency, Dragan Čović, to use an official address on the occasion of BiH Independence Day to promote the idea of segregation, ethnic separation, and influence on the work of public broadcasters.

Journalistic professionalism, effort, and objective information must never be called into question. The policy of division and intentions to control the work of public broadcasters through political action must be stopped. I give my full support in the fight to preserve the basic values of a democratic society – strong and independent public broadcasters, the statement reads.
