Dumić: I will try to earn a call-up from selector Mehmed Baždarević

After the Football Association of Bosnia and Herzegovina announced that 24-year-old N.E.C. Nijmegen defender Dario Dumić has gained the right to play for the Bosnia and Herzegovina senior team, in his first reaction the young footballer said he is overjoyed that everything was resolved quickly.

- I was surprised when I received the notification about the change of sports citizenship, given that I did not expect it to happen now. I was hoping it would be resolved as soon as possible, but I was not that optimistic. Now I am overjoyed that everything ended so quickly - said Dumić.

Dumić previously played for the youth teams of the Danish national team.

- Now I don't have to think about it anymore. I am fully ready to play for the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team. Now I just need to continue with good performances and try to play even better, in order to receive a call-up from selector Mehmed Baždarević and thus fulfill my dream.

Dumić never hid that he wanted to play for Bosnia and Herzegovina, even when he was playing for Denmark. He did not care whether the Danes would kick him out of their team because of those statements.

- I am close to fulfilling my dream. I always emphasized, even while playing for Denmark, that my desire is the Bosnia and Herzegovina jersey. I have never been closer to fulfilling that dream, so that is a huge motivation for me to work even better and harder to take that one more step towards the desired jersey - said the 24-year-old defender.

The young Sarajevan thanked the people from the governing body of Bosnian-Herzegovinian football.

- I want to take this opportunity to thank the people from the Football Association of Bosnia and Herzegovina. I especially thank Mr. Elmir Pilav, who was there the whole time while the process of changing sports citizenship was ongoing - emphasized Dumić.

The 24-year-old defender can't wait to play in front of the fans of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

- I will try my best to play as well as possible, in order to get a call-up. I hope it will come soon. I get goosebumps at the thought of playing in front of the fans of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The best fans in the world. This is also evidenced by the fact that our team has huge support wherever in the world it plays - said Dumić.

Dumić played youth football in Himmelev-Veddelev and Hvidovre, after which he signed for English Norwich City, where he was also included in the first team. He returned to Denmark in 2010, when he signed for Brondby, for which he played until the beginning of this year when he moved to N.E.C. Nijmegen.
